Michael O’Connor has joined KJMLAW Partners as Tax and Business Counsel. He will handle sophisticated tax and estate planning as well as transactional tax advice and litigation. Michael’s role will also include advising clients on complex financial transactions including corporate reorganizations and acquisitions. Michael serves both emerging and established businesses as well as high-net worth individuals.

As Tax and Business Counsel at KJMLAW Partners Michael will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to continue growing this sector and he will also serve in areas of estate planning, trusts, and probate services. In addition to handling estate planning for high net-worth individuals, Michael will also represent clients in spousal and child support hearings and child custody disputes.

Prior to joining KJMLAW Partners, Michael started his own firm in Pasadena representing clients in a variety of financial consulting and tax matters. Michael worked at both Deloitte and KPMG LLP where he served as a member of the firms’ Mergers & Acquisitions group, prior to starting the Michael A. O’Connor Law Firm. Michael’s work included providing tax due diligence and structuring to private equity funds as well as Fortune 100 companies.

Michael received his LL.M. of tax at Georgetown University Law Center. While studying for his masters at Georgetown, Michael worked at The United States Treasury Department, where he assisted in drafting the U.S model income tax treaty and participated in international tax treaty negotiations.  He is a graduate of Southwestern Law School and member of the Dean’s List. Michael also served as Associate Editor of Law Review at Southwestern. He is a member of the State Bar of California and Arizona.

A native of Pasadena, Michael O’Connor went to Loyola High School. In his spare time, he golfs and is a member of the Annandale Golf Club. Hockey is another one of Michael’s favorite hobbies as he has been playing since age 4.
