Pasadena’s City Council Meeting Raises Questions about Health and Safety

(PASADENA, CA) – Pasadena’s City Council convened on Monday night for its first meeting since the devastating windstorm and Eaton Fire broke out in the city and unincorporated area of Altadena last Tuesday, January 7. The council was joined by police and fire chiefs of the area and the zoom-accessible meeting included public comment. Among the top concerns from the public were housing and financial stability while trying to rebuild and prioritizing the health and safety of the air and water supply for the city. Residents expressed concerns about the ruins of older structures that contained lead and asbestos dissolving into the soil, water, and affecting the air quality.

In response, City Councilmembers seconded the residents’ concerns about renters and landlords’ rights and protections, the quality of water and air for the foreseeable future, and poised questions about city cleanup and community resources.

KJMLAW Partners has been keeping abreast of the situation of air quality and drinkable water since the city released alerts last week. Since the office is located in the heart of downtown Pasadena, directly south of the initial burn area, firm staff was given flexible remote work options and air purifying equipment. The firm’s staff photographer was able to capture views of the San Gabriel Mountains right from our 6th floor office (see above, taken Jan. 10, 2025) as the haze of the fires lingers in the foothills communities.

KJMLAW Partners is committing to providing faithful service to its clients while caring for the wellbeing of its entire community, from its staff to friends of the firm.
