Recent Executive Orders Offering Support for Rebuilding Efforts and Property Tax Relief

The recent fires that have devastated many across Southern California are truly unprecedented. As those affected navigate the immediate and long-term impacts, we offer our sincerest hope for a return to a better quality of life for all as we begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.

Our services in this area continue along with the updates issued by the State in response to the wildfires.

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed several executive orders regarding wildfire storms in an effort to provide relief and support, which are listed as follows:

Executive Order N-10-25

Allows taxpayers in the following zip codes to postpone their property tax payments and business personal property tax statement filings until April 10, 2026, without being subject to penalties and interest:

This postponement relief excludes payments made through an impound account and/or to any taxes to a property that were delinquent as of January 6, 2025.

Taxpayers within these zip codes can seek additional relief through the LA County Assessor’s office to have their damaged property reassessed, potentially reducing taxes adjusted downward based on its current state by filing a claim within 12 months from the date the property was damaged or destroyed. Taxpayers can also request additional relief by submitting a penalty cancellation request form to the LA County Treasurer and Tax Collector, which suspends penalties and interest for up to four years.

Executive Order N-4-25

Reduces permitting delays and requirements that might hinder rebuilding efforts of businesses and homeowners, as well as extend protections against price gouging. This order seeks to expedite recovery from the wildfire disasters.

Executive Order N-8-25

Authorizes federal government organizations such as FEMA, EPA, and others to work with and on behalf of the State of California by providing support and relief to wildfire victims.
